Bust A Move
Saugerties Dance Studio specializes in hip hop
Like the endorphins that come with rigorus exercises, hard work has it's rewards. AT a popular dance studio in Saugerties, there's living, popping and locking proof of this. Speaking with World of Dance owner and choreographer Regina C. Marcucci and her students, it quickly becomes clear that teacher and student are united by a love for dance, and their dedication leads to positive impacts on both physical fitness and character. "We're kind of like a sisterhood here" said dance team member Alexandra Robyck, age 16, of Saugerties. "We work hard but we play well together. We spend an average of five hours a week together and it's always fun." Imagine that, fun through hard work - it's exactly what seems to work at World of Dance. (read the entire article) |

World of Dance
more than meets the eye
When you realize the scope of Regina Marcucci’s World of Dance, you are amazed that she has accomplished so much in such a brief time. Regina is from Saugerties, across the river in Ulster County, where she opened her World of Dance studio in 2001. Her Saugerties facility, located on Route 212 in the CVS Plaza, is over six thousand square feet divided into two rooms. She had enough students among her three hundred students (!!) that were more conveniently-oriented to a Columbia County location, so she opened up a second facility last winter at 300 Fairview Avenue in Hudson, in the Aldi’s Plaza. That was just a “soft opening,” a few evenings a week for last winter, however; and this new facility ONLY has three thousand square feet as compared to the six thousand of her first venture. When asked what possessed her to start with such a huge facility she smiled and answered, “when you’re 21, you’re brave.” (read the entire article)

Janet Curry writes a column for the Saugerties Post Star called On My Soapbox. Following is an excerpt from a May 2006 edition of that column. We thank Ms. Curry for her interest, support, and kind words.
"Saturday was my niece Brooke's dance recital, and once again I was not disappointed in the show. Yes, the little ones were cute. Who doesn't love tiny girls dress up like dolls standing on a stage doing their own thing (and not always in sync). What impressed me the most was, as the groups got older, the more professional they looked. This year I did tear my eyes off Brooke briefly now and then to appreciate the other girls she had become so close to. My biggest surprise of the day was a class of gentlemen up on stage, and they were good too! Just think. I could have been watching the beginnings of a future Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire. I'm wise to these guys though; I know they joined dancing class to meet women. Go figure the odds. Only joking , but they did look like they were having a great time. Next spring grab yourself a ticket to the World of Dance recital and see a show worth seeing. These kids are really good." |

To the left is World of Dance owner Regina Marcucci with Kevin Maher. Kevin is a world class film choreographer whose credits include Bring it On, Yet Again and You Got Served. Top right is Regina with jazz dance legend Frank Hatchett. Below them are Jamal Sims and Chio, two of today's most highly sought after dance coaches and choreographers. What do they all have in common along with incredible talent? Each has been a guest instructor at World of Dance!
There's more where this came from. If you're into dance, get into a World of Dance Studio in Saugerties or Hudson. |

April 23rd, 2004 was a typical spring day; bright sunshine, cool temps, a whipping wind on this particular day. By 2:00 the Amount Boyz were officially 2 hours late. But the crowd outside World of Dance wasn't going anywhere. Iin fact, registration sadly had to be cut off. For two days Chio and the Amount Boyz, from the Broadway Dance Center in New York City, served as guest instructors. Owner Regina Marccuci had attended classes with both Chio and Ant Boogie of the Amount Boyz, and felt it would be a great experience for her students and other dance enthusiasts in the area to participate in classes with such talent. Others agreed, as over 400 students registered during the two days! When the Amount Boyz finally arrived, their tardiness was forgotten by all. A CD was quickly loaded into the massive stereo system, and the Amount Boyz immediately catapulted into impressive moves, gliding across the floor as if it were made of ice!
