"Saturday was my niece Brooke's dance recital, and once again I was not disappointed in the show. Yes, the little ones were cute. Who doesn't love tiny girls dress up like dolls standing on a stage doing their own thing (and not always in sync). What impressed me the most was, as the groups got older, the more professional they looked. This year I did tear my eyes off Brooke briefly now and then to appreciate the other girls she had become so close to. My biggest surprise of the day was a class of gentlemen up on stage, and they were good too! Just think. I could have been watching the beginnings of a future Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire. I'm wise to these guys though; I know they joined dancing class to meet women. Go figure the odds. Only joking , but they did look like they were having a great time. Next spring grab yourself a ticket to the World of Dance recital and see a show worth seeing. These kids are really good."
April 23rd, 2004 was a typical spring day; bright sunshine, cool temps, a whipping wind on this particular day. By 2:00 the Amount Boyz were officially 2 hours late. But the crowd outside World of Dance wasn't going anywhere. Iin fact, registration sadly had to be cut off. For two days Chio and the Amount Boyz, from the Broadway Dance Center in New York City, served as guest instructors. Owner Regina Marccuci had attended classes with both Chio and Ant Boogie of the Amount Boyz, and felt it would be a great experience for her students and other dance enthusiasts in the area to participate in classes with such talent. Others agreed, as over 400 students registered during the two days! When the Amount Boyz finally arrived, their tardiness was forgotten by all. A CD was quickly loaded into the massive stereo system, and the Amount Boyz immediately catapulted into impressive moves, gliding across the floor as if it were made of ice!
The group has appeared in several videos including Mario's "Just a Friend" and Missy Elliot's "Get Your Freak On'. Television appearance include MTV's Total Request Live, Soul Train Music Awards, and GQ Magazine's Fashion Awards. They've also appeared with the Scream 3 tour and Jennifer Lopez's international promotional tour, and in the movies Honey and Marcix.
After a stunning performance, Amount Boyz dancer Adrian Wiltshire, aka "A-Dub", stepped forward to begin the much anticipated dance lesson. He moved slowly through each motion, providing detailed explanation when necessary. After the students, males and females ranging in age from seven to their mid twenties, had mastered these initial moves, A-Dub cranked up Usher's "Yeah" on the stereo. With motion set to music, some students showed immediate mastery of the moves while others struggled a bit. Regardless, A-Dub was generous with humor and encouragement. When all was said and done the opinion of the crowd was unanimous; "totally cool!".
